Bumper Euro Millions jackpot split

It was the biggest jackpot of 2011 and had captured the imagination of lottery players across Europe, but in the event the £121 million (€135 million) bumper Euro Millions jackpot split two ways, as players from Portugal and Belgium match all the winning numbers.

The jackpot was a staggering £121 million for Friday’s Euro Millions Lottery draw, millions over estimate as players across Europe queued to buy lottery tickets. There was an expected rush on the sale of Euro Millions tickets across Europe in the few hours before the draw, but the UK saw problems, both at lottery terminals and when purchasing lottery tickets online. Many players found terminals closed way before the 7.30pm deadline, as UK terminals struggled to cope with the demand for tickets and online the payment system went down, which meant players who didn’t have cash in their lottery accounts, couldn’t buy lottery tickets.

All of this didn’t dampen the jackpot too much though, as it still came in over estimate. Although it is the second big draw in the last twelve months where players have had trouble buying tickets for the Euro Lottery draw.

We always recommend buying lottery tickets online, to ensure you don’t have any problems. But in light of the recent problems online, do make sure you buy your Euro Millions Lottery tickets in plenty of time, or you could miss out on your chance for a bumper jackpot.

Congratulations to both the Euromillions winners, who will both collect around €65 million! Next Friday’s Euro Millions jackpot will be an estimated £13 million, good luck!
