Colin and Chris Weir named as Euromillions Jackpot Winners
Colin and Chris Weir from Largs in Scotland have this afternoon been unveiled as the lucky winners of the record breaking €185 million Euromillions jackpot. The happy couple shared a kiss and a cuddle as they met the world’s media at the Inchyra Grange hotel in Falkirk before been presented with a giant cheque for £161,653,000 that will change their lives forever and is sure to bring a smile to their bank manager’s face.
The couple who are both unemployed due to ill health have been married for 30 years and have two children said that it “felt like a dream” when they realised they had won and everything went into slow motion. They went on to say "It feels like a good thing and not something we should feel afraid of, just something we can enjoy with our children. This money will really change our lives and the lives of our children, all our lives we have lived within our means and been comfortable, we appreciate this money will bring a whole new life to our family, we have so many new opportunities but will not rush, it will be a gradual change with choices to be made".
Mrs Weir who had to give up a 37 year career as a nurse says they don't usually watch the Euromillions results as it coincides with their favourite television show but decided to check their numbers before going to bed at around midnight. She checked their first four lines with no luck but then got to the fifth and realised she was ringing every single number. She could not believe her eyes and had to check three or four time and had to get her husband to double check she was seeing right. They then rechecked the numbers in a few different ways and even turned the pc on to check online.
By this time it was too late to ring the winners claim line so they stayed up all night talking still not believing they had won. At around 4am with the adrenalin still pumping they opened a bottle of wine to celebrate even through Mrs. Weir only ever drinks at Christmas. At 9am they made the call and claimed their prize and the rest as they say is fast becoming history.
The couple talked about wanting to travel and see the Great Wall of China and Colin says he would love to stand at the foot of Ayers Rock in Australia. They are also loves of art and would love to visit the galleries of Paris and Russia and see all of the things they never thought they would see.
This is the largest Euromillions prize jackpot ever won; the previous draw was over £3 million more but was not won by a single person. Collin and Chris Weir have broken several records including the single biggest Euromillions win, the largest Euromillions jackpot and the biggest Scottish winners and has seen them shoot up the UK rich list where they are now on a par with celebrities.
