Mega Jackpot Won!

The EuroMillions Mega Jackpot of €100 million on Friday 18 September, 2009, was won by a player in France. No details of the winner’s identity have yet been released, and there is a good chance that he or she may choose to remain anonymous. However, with this latest Mega Jackpot going to an individual winner it is plain for all to see that EuroMillions continues to be one of the biggest and best lottery games in the world.

The Mega Jackpot game was incredibly popular not just in the nine participating countries but all over the world, thanks in large part to the ability to buy tickets online. There were more than 3.25 million EuroMillions prizes paid out across all twelve prize levels, so even though just one person got to celebrate their new-found multi-millionaire status, literally millions of players had good cause to celebrate smaller wins.

Those players who bought their tickets online will have been notified automatically about their wins. Players who did things the old fashioned way will need to remember to check the EuroMillions results manually. If they fail to do that and they do not claim any win before a certain number of days have gone by since the draw (this is 180 days in the UK and less in some other countries) then they will automatically forfeit their prize. This is one reason why we always encourage players to buy tickets online as a matter of course.

Although the peak of Mega Jackpot excitement has now passed, EuroMillions players now have the regular weekly draws to look forward to. The minimum jackpot for regular draws is €15 million (around £13 million for UK readers) so winning one of those would still change your life quite considerably – you just might have to settle for one or two luxury mansions instead of five or six!

Of course, the rollover rule allows even regular draws to offer jackpots that far exceed the €15 million minimum. If we have several rollovers in succession then the eventual EuroMillions jackpot can even exceed the dizzy heights of the €100 million Mega Jackpot. That means it is perfectly possible that we could see another nine figure jackpot before the end of 2009!

We offer our congratulations to the Mega Jackpot winner in France, and wish everyone else who is playing EuroMillions the very best of luck in becoming the next big winner!
