New UK Lottery Record

The EuroMillions lottery game has once again played a pivotal role in setting a new UK lottery record. The draw that made British lottery history was held on Friday 14 May and saw one ticket match all five main numbers (01, 17, 31, 43 and 47) and both Lucky Star numbers (02 and 03) to win a jackpot worth £84,451,321. This is the biggest lottery prize to have been won in the UK, and it beat the previous record (see EuroMillions Sets British Record) by over £18 million!

The £84.45 million jackpot was as big as it was because nobody had won the top EuroMillions prize for five weeks in a row. The starting jackpot of €15 million would be more than enough for almost everyone who plays EuroMillions, but rollovers really do make the game more exciting, and when somebody eventually wins the whole lot outright the event never fails to make headlines.

Of course, when a massive EuroMillions jackpot win does make headlines, everyone immediately wants details about the lucky player who managed to beat odds of 1 in 76,275,360. In this case it was a couple of days before the owner of the record-breaking ticket came forward to claim their prize, but the winner decided not to go public. This means that no details about the winner will ever be forthcoming from the lottery organisers, though whether information comes to light via other avenues is something that remains to be seen.

Because no details have been released about the owner of the winning ticket, we don’t know if the new UK lottery record has been set by an individual or a lottery syndicate, but whatever the case we would like to say a big well done to the winner(s) and we hope that their £84.45 million fortune brings them lots of happiness in the future.

As for everyone else who hasn’t yet won a EuroMillions jackpot, why not play EuroMillions online and have a go at winning the next one this Friday?
