Tesco Ireland wins the Euro Millions
Thanks to a strange set of circumstances and a twist of fate, one charitable organisation is about to receive a big donation as Tesco Ireland wins the Euro Millions Lottery. A till error saw a forgotten lottery ticket left in a till in a Tesco store in Ireland, and that ticket came up trumps, to the tune of €500,000! Now, Tesco have pledged to give the cash to charity, once it is verified that they are in fact the winners.
The strange turn of events happened when a gentleman went into the Tesco Ireland store in County Meath to buy tickets for the Euro Millions Lottery draw last weekend. He wanted a €4 Euro Millions ticket, but a mistake by the cashier meant the €9 ticket with the Euromillions Plus option (available only in Ireland) included on the ticket. Not wanting the ticket printed, the gentleman handed the ticket back to the cashier who popped it in the till.
Now had the ticket not won a prize, we’re sure this is the very last you would have heard of it. However, fate had a hand and the ticket scooped €500,000 in the Euromillions Plus draw, effectively meaning that Tesco had won the Euro Millions Lottery.
It’s a most unusual lottery store and maybe why you should consider your options if you’re ever handed too many lottery tickets. Fate is certainly a fickle hand, but as this gentleman would testify it can also be rather slippery.
Tesco have now pledged to give the money to charity, so everyone’s a winner and of course tonight’s Euro Millions Lottery draw is worth £13 million, or €15 million across Europe.
